Vintage watch sales, sourcing and repair

Vintage 1960s Mathey Tissot Watch Owned by Baseball Legend and Atlanta Braves Commentator Ernie Johnson, Sr.

[SOLD $550]

Want to wear a piece of baseball history on your wrist? This was Ernie Johnson Sr.'s watch, gifted to him by the Atlanta Braves in the 1960s. Ernie played for the Boston and Milwaukee Braves in the 1950s. He pitched to help the Braves win the 1957 World Series alongside teammate Hank Aaron. He became a TV commentator for the Atlanta Braves, a role he served for 40 years. He was to the Atlanta Braves as Vince Scully was to the Los Angeles' Dodgers. Provenance verified by letter from the company that conducted the sale of Mr. and Mrs. Johnson's estate.

The watch itself is a gold filled Mathey Tissot, a well respected maker of quality Swiss time pieces. It is mechanical winding and measures 35 mm, excluding crown. The watch is in overall good condition, with a little wear on the back as is normal with age. It does not currently run, but will once again tick after a cleaning and servicing. We can do this for you for an additional fee, or you can take it to your own watchmaker.

This piece is in overall excellent condition, with most of the luminescence on hands intact and minimal scratches to crystal and case. The hour marker lume still glows.

The chronograph stopwatch hand functions, resetting to 12:00 when the flyback button is pushed. VINTAGE 1950s GÜBELIN 35mm IPSOMATIC 25 JEWELS AUTOMATIC 14K GOLD WATCH

[SOLD FOR $420]

With roots dating to 1854, Gubelin initially produced watches in partnership with high-end brands such as Patek Phillippe, IWC and Vacheron Constantin and Jaeger-LeCoultre. It also produced watches under its house name, and the Ipsomatic is one SUCH example. The watch seen here is in a 14K solid gold case, with stainless steel back, and is powered by a high quality 25 jewel movement with 2 adjustments. The 14K gold case is unmarked, but we had it scratch-tested by two reputable jewelers in Austin, Texas. This watch came directly from an estate and is still working. It could benefit from a cleaning and service, which we can perform for an additional fee.

RARE VINTAGE 1980 BULOVA "DEVIL" DIVER QUARTZ DAY / DATE WATCH

[SOLD FOR $119]

Bulova made its iconic Devil diver's watch in the 1960s and 1970s, so named for its 666 feet depth rating. This particular model is vintage quartz, and we believe it was made for only one year (1980)- and very possibly the last year Devil diver's were made. The all stainless steel watch is in good shape, although the crystal is cracked and will need to be replaced. In addition, the bezel does not rotate. We recommend the watch be serviced. We can service it for an additional fee, with an estimated turnaround time of 4 weeks. It comes on a nylon, zulu-style strap.

VINTAGE TITUS-MATIC 25 JEWELS SUPER COMPRESSOR AUTOMATIC DATE DIVE WATCH 1960S

[SOLD FOR $706.00]

This iconic dive watch has the famed super compressor case, patented in the mid 1950s by Ervin Piquerez SA (EPSA). As the diver descended and water pressure increased, the seal on the caseback tightened, maximizing water resistance. Jaeger-LeCoultre, Longines, Benrus and Hamilton, among many others, used this unique case design. Depth rated to 20 ATM (though we do not advise submerging or exposing to water).

This watch, with its classic 1960s style, has a beautiful black dial, and the lume still glows on the hands and hour markers. At 36 mm wide, excluding crowns, the watch wears nicely, not to big or small. It comes in an all stainless steel case. The watch was serviced a few years ago.

VINTAGE WAKMANN TRIPLE DATE CHRONOGRAPH VALJOUX 730 (72c) WATCH

[SOLD]

This chronograph is the famed triple date version, powered by a Valjoux 730 movement ( Valjoux 72c). The watch winds smoothly and runs, and the chronograph stopwatch also works. The top button starts and stops the stopwatch hand, and the bottom "flyback" button precisely resets the hand to 12:00. The chronograph buttons are missing their pusher covers. The day and date buttons are sticky. The watch case has grime and dirt between the lugs, so a cleaning and servicing are needed. We can have the watch serviced for an additional fee. A leather strap would pair beautifully with this watch.

Watch price is negotiable.

The beautifully gilded movement is dry and dusty and will need to be cleaned and oiled to get it running again. We can have it serviced for an additional fee. VINTAGE 1940S GRUEN VERI-THIN "DOCTOR'S' MANUAL-WINDING WATCH IN 10K ROSE GOLD FILLED CASE

[SOLD]

This watch, made by Gruen, was a favorite among doctors, hence its nickname. The inner dial with enlarged seconds around the edge gave doctors a visible and reliable method of taking a patient's pulse. The Veri-Thin model was Gruen's wristwatch answer to thicker, bulkier pocket watches. The rose gold filled case is in beautiful condition, as is the dial. The bracelet is gold rose plated and is original to the watch. The watch measures about 26mm across.

The watch winds smoothly and runs, albeit fast. A service is recommended for optimal performance. We can have it serviced for an additional fee.

VINTAGE 1950s LE COULTRE "FUTUREMATIC" BUMPER AUTOMATIC WATCH W/ POWER RESERVE

[SOLD]

This watch was considered ahead of its time in the 1950s, hence its name: "Futurematic." Its crown is located on the caseback, and the power reserve tells you how much juice remains. If power is low, several shakes of the wrist will boost the reserve. The 17 jewels watch sits in a 10K gold filled case, which has some wear normal for its age. The dial has a gently aged appearance. It comes on a 10K top caps stretch band.

The watch is keeping relatively good time and the power reserve works as it should. A service is recommended for optimal performance. We can have it serviced for an additional fee.

VINTAGE 1970s BENRUS AUOMATIC DIVER'S WATCH W/ ROULETTE DIAL AND DATE INDICATOR

[SOLD]

With its colorful "roulette" wheel dial and lollipop sweep hand, this Benrus diver's watch embodies the flare of the 1970s. This watch was made for an era of pioneering ocean exploration when the likes of Jacque Cousteau were teaching us about the ocean's wonders.  Measuring 36mm wide, the watch is fitted with a bi-directional bezel for monitoring time at depth. (Testing for water resistance is critical before submerging watch.) The date quick set function works properly by pulling out the crown to the 1st position. The crown is signed and original to the watch, and the date is easily visible thanks to the magnification of the cyclops eye. The case is all stainless steel.

The watch is keeping relatively good time, but it is running a little fast. A service is recommended for optimal performance, as movements become dirty and dry with time and need cleaning, oiling and regulating. We can have it serviced for an additional fee.

VINTAGE 1967 BULOVA ACCUTRON "TUNING FORK" WATCH W/ "BOWTIE" LUGS

[SOLD]

Often called "Hummers" because of their distinctive hum when placed next to the ear, the 218D model line featured here was the 2nd generation Accutron by Bulova. The U.S. Space Program used Accutron timers and watches on satellites, and astronauts famously wore Accutrons into space. This watch with its unusual "bowtie" style lugs, comes from an estate. It is one of the finer examples we've seen. It has an exceptionally clean case, crystal and dial. The lume even still glows. The watch measures 35 mm across. We installed a new battery, and the watch is keeping excellent time (+/- 0 sec after 24hrs). We polished the crystal and lightly cleaned the case. This watch comes on a stretch band..

VINTAGE 1952 "BUMPER" AUTOMATIC OMEGA MEN'S  WATCH

[SOLD]

This all stainless steel Omega, dating to 1952, is powered by a first generation "bumper" self-winding movement (Caliber 344). The sub-dial showing seconds is a lovely accent to this classic timepiece. The watch measures 34mm across, excluding the crown. Someone gifted this watch to a gentleman, Dennis A. Holgrem, which is inscribed on the caseback. We obtained this watch from a local estate. We installed a new caseback gasket and polished the crystal. The watch is keeping good time, but a service and cleaning are highly recommended for optimal performance. Once the dial is cleaned, this watch will pop. It comes on a stretch band.

We can service the watch for an additional fee or you can buy it as is and have it serviced by a watchmaker of your choice.

VINTAGE 14K GOLD FILLED 1960S OMEGA SEAMASTER AUTOMATIC 17J MEN'S DRESS WATCH

[SOLD]

A classic timepiece from the 1960s, this Omega dress watch oozes elegance. The signed crown is original to the watch. We have removed most scuffs from the crystal. The 14K gold filled case is in overall excellent condition; there is some wear around the notches used to unscrew the case, but this is to be expected and gives the watch a battle-worn character. The watch comes on a Speidel 10K gold filled top cap stretch bracelet. This watch runs strong, but is a little fast (+1:00/day). The movement is a smidge loose inside the case, but it is not affecting functionality. For optimal performance,  we recommend this watch be professionally serviced.
